Welcome to the Department of Accounting, University of Cape Coast. The Department of Accounting is one of the departments at the School of Business, College of Humanities and Legal Studies, University of Cape Coast. During the 2016/2017 academic year the Department of Accounting was couched from the then Department of Accounting and Finance to place special emphasis on the delivery of accounting related courses at the School of Business. We have collaborations with ICAG, ACCA, CIMA, CIT among others. The Department also provides practical training, internship placements, and research and capacity building.
Research at the Department is centred around the following five thematic areas:
- Financial Reporting and Corporate Governance
- Taxation and Law
- Internal Control, Audit and Assurance Practice
- Management Accounting and Control Systems
- Public Sector Accounting and Finance
The faculty at the Department of Accounting are leading experts in these areas of specialisation which facilitates the delivery of cutting-edge, industry focused accounting education and research across different levels. Our faculty have published in top-tier journals and made insightful contributions on national and international issues in the areas of accounting, auditing, taxation among others.
We have demand driven and uniquely designed programmes targeted at the ever-evolving needs of the industry. At the bachelor’s level, there is the four-year Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) programme. For postgraduate studies, our students have the opportunity to study Master of Commerce (Accounting) and Master of Business Administration (Accounting) either on the regular mode or on the sandwich mode. In addition, we offer a PhD in Business Administration with specialisation in accounting.
There are other exciting opportunities that enhance the learning and social experiences of students and faculty which contribute to their overall quality of life. Overall, we provide student-centred learning experiences that are sensitive to student needs and aspirations. Our graduates are in high demand across every industry across the country. This is the result of a carefully selected curriculum that incorporates the skills and competencies required at the workplace in the 21st Century.
On the University of Cape Coast campus, the Department is located in the School of Business building which houses a well-equipped library and the UCC/ACCA Resource Centre.
