Aims of the programme

The aim of the MCom (Accounting) prgoramme is to provide candidates with the requisite foundations for academic and industry research in accounting. The programme provides students with the skills necessary to conceptualize contemporary issues in the academic and professional practice of accounting and to tackle these issues with the requisite methodological tools for informed practice and advancement of knowledge in disciplines of accounting: financial reporting, audit and assurance, taxation and management accounting. The programme also aims to develop students’ ability to apply accounting tools to questions of development needs in the areas of sustainability and environmental management.

Objectives of the programme

Graduates of programme are expected to be able to

• conceptualize, initiate and conduct an independent research project in the discipline of accounting.

• identify research problems from contemporary issues in the practice of accounting and to attempt to provide insights to such problems based on rigorous analysis.

• develop an ability to choose a relevant research design and analytical approach to apply to research problems in the accounting disciplines.

• develop an ability to communicate research findings both orally and in writing for audience in academia and professional practice of accounting.

• develop skills in the design, collection and processing of data for research in the disciplines of accounting.

• develop an ability to synthesize and critique research in the accounting disciplines.
