Aims of the programme

The aim of the Bachelor of Science in Economics program is to produce graduates with a strong foundation in economic theory and applied analysis, who are capable of understanding and addressing real-world economic challenges. The program is designed to equip students with the analytical, quantitative, and research skills necessary for careers in policy development, economic consulting, financial analysis, and academia.

Objectives of the programme

The specific objectives of the programme are to:

• Develop students’ ability to critically analyze economic issues using both theoretical frameworks and empirical data.

• Provide a thorough understanding of microeconomic and macroeconomic principles and their application in national and global contexts.

• Equip students with quantitative skills in mathematics, statistics, and econometrics for economic modeling and forecasting.

• Foster an appreciation of ethical considerations and the role of economics in addressing social and developmental issues.

• Offer opportunities for students to engage in independent research and apply economic tools to real-life policy and business problems.

Entry requirements for admission of students

Applicants are expected to

i. Have obtained a good first degree in accounting from a recognized academic institution. A candidate may in lieu of a degree in accounting apply with professional qualification in accounting equivalent to Part Two of Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana examination.

ii. Submit an official transcript of academic record

iii. Submit, at least, two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer.

iv. Satisfy any additional requirement prescribed by the College/Faculties/Schools/Institutes/Departments. These may include relevant work experience, a written entrance examination and/or an interview.

Requirements for graduation

The following requirements for graduation:         

Course Requirements: MBA candidate is expected to pass all courses during the first two semesters of course work at a CGPA of 2.00. In addition, MBA candidates have to submit their dissertations by the end of the second semester.
